The experience

More than a fishing trip

This is a fishing holiday built around the whole day, not just the hours on the water. You fish wild rivers in Ordesa National Park and the high valleys of Aragón, then come back to comfortable lodgings, regional cooking and Spanish wine.

Why anglers choose the Spanish Pyrenees: pristine water, a Spanish national champion on the guide team, and a trip a non-fishing partner enjoys just as much.

The fishing

Dry fly, nymphing and sight-fishing across seven valleys

The Spanish Pyrenees give you more than twelve rivers and their tributaries across seven valleys, from tight canyon creeks to open valley water. Dry fly works right through the season, and the guides read each river to put you where the fish are.

The fishing is varied and often technical. You might sight-fish a rising trout in clear water one hour and swing a nymph through a fast run the next. A Spanish national champion sits on the guide team, so there is always someone to sharpen your casting.

The fish

Wild zebra trout and four more species

The headline fish is the native zebra trout, an ancient Mediterranean strain with distinctive markings that rises freely to a dry. Alongside them you will find wild brown trout, brook trout, rainbows and, on the lower rivers, hard-fighting Iberian barbel.

Decades of catch and release have let these fish grow, and the higher you climb the wilder they get. Expect trophy browns in the quiet spring water and free-rising trout through the summer.

The water

Twelve rivers, seven valleys, Catalonia to Aragón

The fishing spreads across the Gállego, Cinca, Ara, Aragón and Veral among others, several of them running through Ordesa National Park and protected natural parks. Each valley fishes differently, so no two days are the same.

In spring the trips are based from Graus for trophy trout and solitude. Through summer they move up to Biescas for high mountain streams, alpine lakes and the full Ordesa experience.

Where you'll stay

Three levels of comfort, all hand-picked

Every trip is all-inclusive with your choice of three accommodation tiers. At the top is Viñas de Lárrede, a former winner at the World Luxury Hotel Awards. Tierra de Biescas offers comfortable rooms with a spa, gym and pool, and a traditional Pyrenean guest house gives you a charming, characterful base.

Whichever you choose, you are close to the rivers and well looked after, with a regional dinner and local wine each evening.

The table

Regional Pyrenean cooking and local wine, every day

Food is part of the trip, not an afterthought. Days start with breakfast, break for a gourmet riverside picnic, and end with a regional dinner paired with local wine.

The menus lean on Aragonese and Pyrenean cooking, with plenty for every appetite after a long day wading.

Full board is included throughout, along with house wines, beers, spirits and soft drinks. Tell us about any dietary needs and we will sort them.

“This ranks among the most memorable fly fishing experiences I have had. The guides were superb, the rivers unlike anything we had fished before, and the zebra trout were something else.”

Plan with confidence

The questions anglers always ask

All levels are welcome. Beginners are taught from scratch and often catching trout on day one, while experienced anglers are pushed by technical water and a national champion on the guide team.

March to May is based from Graus for trophy trout and quiet water. June to October moves up to Biescas for high streams and alpine lakes. November brings the biggest fish of the year before winter.

No. A 9ft 4 to 5 weight covers most of the fishing, and all gear is available to borrow free. Bring your own if you prefer and the guide will advise.

Very. There are tailored companion days, from Ordesa National Park and Ainsa to vineyards, spas, wildlife, monasteries and castles, and the food and wine are worth the trip alone.

Fly to Zaragoza, Barcelona or Madrid. We handle transfers from the nearest airport or station and arrange all daily fishing permits for you.

Yes. The fishing is catch and release to protect these wild populations, with barbless hooks on the regulated water.
