World-class Fly Fishing Holidays

What makes a great fly fishing holiday? Is it the fish, the scenery, the company, or the food and culture? At FLYRUN Fishing Holidays, we believe it’s a combination of all of these. Founded by James Hatto, a fly fishing guide and world traveller with first-hand experience of delivering outstanding trips on his home waters of Wales, we understand what goes into creating unforgettable days on the water.

That knowledge is what drives us to handpick the best guides and lodges from across the globe. We build personal relationships with every partner we work with, and only collaborate with those who share our ethos.

Why the Right Guidance Changes Everything

One of the most common mistakes we see anglers make when planning a fly fishing holiday is being in the right region but on the wrong stretch of water. You might have the perfect destination, the right week, and well-matched tackle, but if you’re not on the section where fish are actively holding and feeding, you’ll spend the day casting to empty water.

Local knowledge is what fixes that. Which beat fishes best when the river’s running high after rain. What the insect life looks like on a particular stretch, well enough to match the hatch before the fish show you what they want. You don’t get that from a guidebook, it comes from years of guiding the same waters, season after season. That’s what our partner guides bring to every trip.

Our guides live on these rivers. We select them for how well they know their home waters and how well they teach on the riverbank, not just how well they cast (though several are national champions). They share our ethos: be genuinely helpful, be knowledgeable, and never waste a day on the water.

Fly Fishing Holidays for Every Skill Level

You don’t need decades of experience to enjoy a guided fly fishing trip. Some of our most rewarding days on the water have been with anglers who are relatively new to the sport.

Our guides are skilled teachers as well as expert fishermen. For those just starting out, the goal isn’t just to catch fish on the day — it’s to build the skills and confidence to fish independently when you get home. From casting technique and fly selection to reading the water and understanding trout behaviour, a guided trip with FlyRUN will accelerate your development far beyond what you’d achieve on your own.

For experienced anglers, our guides open doors to water and techniques that would take years to figure out independently. Whether that’s targeting trophy brown trout on technical spring creeks or learning to read unfamiliar freestone rivers, having a knowledgeable local guide at your side changes everything.

How We Select Our Partners Guides & Lodges

Every lodge and guide in the FlyRUN network has been personally vetted. We visit the destinations, fish with the guides, and assess the quality of the experience before we’ll recommend it to anyone. We only work with partners who share our commitment to exceptional fishing, genuine hospitality, and conservation.

That means you’ll never arrive at a destination wondering whether the guide knows the water. Our partners have built their knowledge over years — often decades — of guiding their home rivers. They know where fish hold at different water levels, which flies are working on any given week, and how to adapt when conditions change. That’s the difference between a holiday that delivers and one that leaves you wondering what might have been.

No Hidden Costs — Ever

Transparency matters to us. When you book through FlyRUN, you pay the same rate as booking direct with the lodge. No hidden markups, no service fees, no surprise charges. Our job is to match you with the right destination, the right guide, and the right time of year — and to handle the logistics so you can focus on the fishing.

We’re upfront about what’s included in every trip, and we’ll always let you know about any additional costs like licences, equipment hire, or transfers before you book.

Conservation at the Heart of What We Do

We believe the rivers and ecosystems that make these trips possible deserve active protection. That’s why 10% of FlyRUN’s profits go directly to conservation organisations working in the regions where we operate.

Our current conservation partners include:

  • Wild Trout Trust — protecting and restoring wild trout populations and their habitats across the UK
  • Atlantic Salmon Trust — championing the conservation of wild Atlantic salmon and sea trout
  • Grayling Society — dedicated to the conservation and understanding of grayling and their river environments.

When you book with FlyRUN, you’re not just investing in a great experience on the water. You’re contributing directly to the long-term health of the fisheries and wild places that make it all possible.
