The experience

Discover Bosnia’s legendary fly fishing

Discover the gems of the north-west Bosnian basin. This compact region is home to 12 world-class rivers, each with its own character and charm. One day, you could be stalking large trout and grayling in a glassy, spring-fed glide. The next, you could be fishing pocket water in a fast, turquoise freestone river.

That variety is what makes the fishing so exciting. Because these rivers are filtered through limestone, the water is exceptionally clear and the insect life is excellent.

Why anglers choose Bosnia: 12 rivers within an hour of one lodge, giving you more variety in a smaller area than almost anywhere else in Europe. With so many options close by, you can always fish the water that’s in the best condition on the day.

THE FISHING

Stalk trout and grayling in clear limestone water

Much of the week is spent sight-fishing to trout and grayling with dries and nymphs, spotting fish before making the cast. When fish are holding deeper, technical nymphing can also be an effective and productive way to fish.

Our expert local guides will coach you in both methods and help you adapt your approach to the conditions on the day.

The water

12 Rivers Within an Hour of One Base

With so many rivers close to Ribnik, your guide can make the call each morning, choosing the water that gives you the best chance on the day. Each river offers a rewarding challenge and holds large fish.

The rivers include the Ribnik, Sana, Sanica, Pliva, Janj, Unac, Una, Krušnica, Vrbas, Korčanica, Krupa and Dabar.

“This was one of the best fishing trips I’ve ever done. Every river felt different, the scenery was incredible, and the fishing was technical in the best way. I landed my biggest grayling of the trip on a tiny dry, which I’ll remember for a long time.”

— Mark R. · Bozeman, USA

Plan with confidence

The questions anglers always ask

Moderate. Most banks are easy to reach and wading is gentle. There are no big hikes, and your guide matches the day to your fitness.

The advantage of twelve rivers. If one colours up after rain, the spring-fed rivers like the Ribnik and Krušnica stay clear, so you keep fishing. Blank days are rare.

The local restaurants cater well for most diets. Tell us about any allergies or preferences in advance and we’ll arrange it.

Mobile coverage and wifi are available at the base. The rivers are remote and peaceful, which is rather the point.

We offer private trips, but we also like to bring small groups of anglers together where possible. It gives the holiday a more social feel and helps reduce the cost for our guests, as group trips are much cheaper than fully private tours.

On the water, we keep things personal. We never run more than three guests per guide, so everyone gets plenty of time, support and local knowledge throughout the trip.

Yes. There’s sightseeing, walking and great food on the doorstep.

No. The trip suits all abilities and the guides tailor the day to you. Clear water rewards a tidy presentation, so a little casting practice helps, but improvers are very welcome.

May and June for dry-fly fishing and heavy hatches. Late summer fishes well early and late in the day, and autumn brings the grayling into peak condition. The hucho is a cold-water target for the colder months.

From €1,350pp for 7 nights. The per-person price drops as the group grows, from €1,755pp for two anglers down to €1,350pp for seven. A 20% deposit secures your dates.

Banja Luka, with transfers to and from Ribnik included. We can arrange transfers from Zagreb, Sarajevo or Split for an additional cost.

All fishing is catch-and-release. These are wild, self-sustaining stocks and we fish them carefully to keep them that way.

We’ll always do our best to move your dates where we can.
